How we make pages accountable

  • Tax claims are checked against official IRS, Treasury, SEC, or state agency materials when available.
  • Every calculator and guide shows tax year, last updated date, author, source-check status, scope, and visible exclusions.
  • Reader corrections are routed through a published contact path and material updates are reflected in page changelogs.

Editorial responsibility

Equity Tax Lab is responsible for the calculators, guides, assumptions, and summaries published on this site. Public content is maintained by the Equity Tax Lab operator.

Equity Tax Lab is not a CPA firm, law firm, payroll provider, investment adviser, or tax preparation service. The operator is not presented as a tax professional.

Pages marked source-checked have been compared against listed official sources through an editorial checklist. Source-checked does not mean a tax professional has reviewed the page.

Pages are marked expert-reviewed only after a qualified external tax, legal, payroll, or financial professional has reviewed the page for accuracy and clarity.

Source standards

Primary sources are preferred for tax law, deadlines, thresholds, filing instructions, and regulatory statements. IRS, Treasury, SEC, state tax agencies, official forms, instructions, publications, notices, and revenue procedures take priority over secondary summaries.

Secondary publisher pages may be used for benchmarking page structure or user experience, but they do not replace official sources for tax claims.

When official guidance is incomplete, ambiguous, or not updated for the current tax year, the page should say so instead of filling the gap with personal advice.

See the Official Sources page for the current source families and source-check dates used by this site.

Calculator methodology

Calculator pages must show inputs, assumptions, exclusions, method notes, and official sources. Inputs run in the browser unless a page explicitly states otherwise. Equity Tax Lab does not store calculator inputs.

Calculator outputs are estimates. They are not personalized tax, legal, payroll, accounting, investment, or filing advice.

Calculator pages should direct readers to a qualified professional when the result depends on state law, personal return facts, filing method, valuation, liquidity, AMT interaction, or legal eligibility.

See Methodology for how estimates, assumptions, source checks, and expert-review labels are separated.

Corrections and updates

To report a potential correction, email hello@equitytaxlab.com with the page URL, the specific statement at issue, and the official source you believe should be used.

Material corrections update the page content, last updated date, and changelog. Minor grammar, formatting, or accessibility fixes may be published without changing the substantive review status.

See the Corrections page for the public correction path and current correction log.

AI assistance

AI tools may assist with drafting, outlining, formatting, accessibility checks, and internal review. AI output is not treated as tax authority and does not create expert review.

See the AI Use Policy for the site-level rule.

Independence and monetization

Content decisions are based on reader usefulness, official sources, and calculator transparency. Advertising and newsletter capture must not interfere with calculator inputs, results, navigation, source lists, or subscription consent.
